Face It (Scissor Link #2) by Georgette Kaplan

Georgette Kaplan has such a unique way of telling a story. I love it! Her characters are dynamic, witty and absolutely zany. She rights at a fast-paced that take a bit to settle into but once you do, time just whizzes right by.

Elizabeth Smile is our main character from this one. If you can remember back to Kaplan’s second book, Scissor Link, Elizabeth was Janet Lace’s administrative assistant. (PS you don’t have to read that one to read this one, this is a stand-alone) The book starts off with a flashback to college when she had a hook-up with her roommate Michelle Harlow. Michelle had Elizabeth’s heart and didn’t even know it. That short fling has been one of the catalysts for Elizabeth never settling down and staying far away from a commitment longer than an evening or two.

So of course, Michelle comes back into her life almost a decade later. Why, well she needs Elizabeth to pretend to be her girlfriend as she is going through a messy divorce. Husband had a threesome and now she wants him to get none of their millions. EEK! Nothing good can come of this idiotic plot and it doesn’t help that Michelle is kind of a douche bag. I’m not kidding I was actually terrified that this was a love story between Elizabeth and Michelle because I wanted to scream, hell no, run away, Liz, run far, far away. Spoiler alertIt’s not. Whew!

Anne, she is an amazing character. She brings so much fun to this book. Anne is Michelle’s sister and Elizabeth meets her at the Harlow family home in Ohio. Michelle needs Elizabeth to help her sell the story to all parties involved including her siblings. One sibling in skeptical and is not afraid to hide her opinion. Anne’s dynamic with Elizabeth is by far the best aspect of this book. (hide spoiler)]

My final thoughts are this. Kaplan writes zany, humor-filled books. Her characters have that biting, sarcastic humor that I adore but I know many folks that do not. There is a lot going on with this book. The supporting characters and their issues can be somewhat distracting. If you overlook that one issue and can just focus on Elizabeth and Anne, the book is so much fun. A true breath of fresh air. I really, really liked it. I think you will see reviews for this one all over the place. My advice it this, if you liked Kaplan’s other works you will most likely like this one too. This is not a serious book at all! It’s self-deprecating, zany, full of witty a*hole comments and just a bit twisty. So I totally liked it!

Scissor Link by Georgette Kaplan

Wendy Cedar is an intern for an aerospace engineering company with diverse interests, think Lockheed Martin. Wendy is totally unsatisfied with her career up to this point. Her boss is a mega-jerk who treats her like a high school student rather than the masters in engineering grad that she is. What makes matters even worse her love life is even more dismal. Everything changes when Janet Lace enters the picture and not only steals her heart but gives her a chance to advance her career.

Janet is a recent divorcee. Her wife of forever is having a mid-life crisis and therefore leaves Janet for a new woman and a new career. Janet is used to her life being more routine, so when her wife leaves her for another woman and a new career, Janet isn’t all that sad, she’s more lost than anything. To make matters worse she has begun having a crush on the much younger, Wendy, who she just acquired on her team.

This book is an interesting combination. One part romantic comedy, one part edgy and then mix in a bit of BDSM thrown in just to keep you on your toes. This interesting combination works because of the fun and quirky banter between the two mains. Kaplan is extremely skilled in creating dramatic and interesting dialogue between her characters. Where I would say the book is a bit weak is that while you like Wendy and Janet, you don’t completely buy into their relationship. I never felt like oh yes they will make it, this is true love. I think the book needed to spend more time with the characters together. Wendy and Janet’s relationship is in the building stage and then all the sudden goes at breakneck speed till the end. I wanted more togetherness. Overall this book is fun, and well written the romance left me a tad flat. Still a huge fan of Georgette Kaplan’s work thus far though!

Ex-Wives of Dracula by Georgette Kaplan

Ex-Wives of Dracula by Georgette Kaplan is very, very good. I’m talking you better hold onto your horses because this is a wild ride of awesomeness. This book is fun, crazy, interesting and oh so sexy.

Mindy Murphy is kind of a dork. I’m not being mean, this is a self- proclaimed title. She doesn’t buy into any of the malarkey that is synonymous with high school. She does her own thing and she’s totally secure with herself. She is biding her time till she can get out of her small town. She is above the fray of high school drama. Mindy is one of those self-aware kids that are light years ahead of her peers, she is so cool and hip, but not in the teen-aged approved way, if you know what I mean.

Lucia West is the queen of Mindy’s small town Texas high school. As head cheerleader, Lucia, has everything going for her. She literally has the perfect body and the perfect star football player boyfriend. Lucia West is literally living the high school dream. One thing about this character that makes her unforgettable is she is wild and crazy with a foul mouth and bad attitude.

The character development and dialogue are superb in this book. The two mains are quirky, lovable and unique. They have dialogue that is fresh and honest. I really felt like I was sitting with two teenagers. It is quite captivating how Lucia interacts with others, especially Mindy. These two have a banter that is fabulous. You can see through their interactions how their relationship is developing from friendship to some something more.

Once the book establishes where it is going, Lucia becoming a vamp, hold on because this book begins to go a breakneck speed. You literally will not be able to put it down. There is so much going on, but what is never lost is the love story between Mindy and Lucia. As the book evolves, and new aspects of the story come into play, Lucia and Mindy relationship is still the main focus. It is so good, so honest and sensual, in a vampire/human kind of way!

You will not be disappointed with this one. This book is fantastic from beginning to end. Seriously this book is damn good!

I received a copy of this book by Ylva Publishing in return for an honest review.
