Known Threat (Agent O’Connor, #3) by Kara A. McLeod

From Kara A. McLeod’s first book to her now third book, there has been such a progression from really good to phenomenal. I was enthralled by the third installment of her Agent O’Connor series. She made my heart race, my emotions jump all over the place, I was taken right into the book, real life be damned.

McLeod has become a master in on writing a fantastic story with main characters that exude fortitude, strength kindness and underneath it all, raw vulnerability. It hard not to be captured by this series, I can easily say this is one of the books I have been most excited about this year.

Like I have said before this is a series, each book building off of each other. Do not start here, you want to pick up Actual Stop and then Worthy of Trust and Confidence. Without a doubt, this is a damn good series and you will not be disappointed have three amazing books to devour.

Special Agent Ryan O’Connor returns to action after being somewhat physically and emotionally recovered from her bullet wounds. Back to active duty and dealing with the craziness that life continues to throw her way. When we ended the second book, we knew that Ryan’s girlfriend, Special Agent Allison Reynolds was having some type of an issue with her boss Beau Byers. Well, get ready for that onion to be peeled. It’s picked right off the headlines of today’s papers and it is enough to make your blood boil for both of the Agents.

The Beau debacle is just one iron in the fire. Ryan has another monstrous disaster to put out. Her sister has been captured by a madman. Remember the paranoid schizophrenic from the last book who thinks the president’s daughter is his wife. Well, Adam Royce Walker is back and has taken Ryan’s sister as a way to meet up with Zoey Carmicheal.

This is a heart-stopping adventure that will drag so many emotions from you. My heart broke for all the ladies involved. There are parts of this book that will crack your heart into tiny fragments. One part, in particular, will cause you true anguish.

While I say this, I’m also saying its worth it because this book is so, so good. You are there every moment, McLeod transports you into the story and never takes you out of it until the very last page is turned. The book will stick with you and have you impatiently waiting to meet up with these characters again.

This one surpasses the first and the second in the series. Not an easy feat to do. The best of the series so far! I cannot wait for the next one. Kara A. McLeod, you have stolen my heart with this series. If you read this review, thank you!

Into Thin Air by Jeannie Levig

Two things are apparent to me after reading Jeannie Levig’s three novels. 1. She is an absolutely fantastic writer. 2. She is anything but formulaic. Every single one of her books has been good, but all so different. This writer knows how to drawn emotion from her readers.

Infidelity, a hard subject to tackle, right. You want to hate the cheater, you want them to be punished and feel remorse, because, well they suck as a human. You want the cheated to find happiness, to move past her pain and soar to new heights. That’s what have in Into Thin Air, but in a dark, gritty way.

Hannah Lewis and Jordan Webber have been together three years. The high school guidance counselor with all-American good looks with the broody, but kind civil rights lawyer. Sounds great on paper. Here is the caveat. Jordan likes Hannah, but she doesn’t love her. She has a dark side that demands being fed. So while Hannah lives in her happy, self-absorbed bubble, Jordan cheats with every woman she can. She keeps a part of herself removed from Hannah and their easy/fun relationship, she doesn’t feel remorse, she is who she is and she will have what she desires. Sooooo, Jordan is a giant a$$hole. She also vanishes into thin air one morning. Gone!

Nicki Medina is Jordan’s bestie. She is the one person who knows how Jordan really operates. She doesn’t know all of the secrets of Jordan, one can only imagine how many there really are, but she does know more than anyone else. Nicki had pulled away from Hannah and Jordan the couple, not willing to watch the betrayal of a good woman from the sidelines. She comes back into Hannah’s life when Jordan goes missing without a trace.

This story is truly multifaceted. You have the loss of Jordan to Hannah and Nicki and the panic as to what has happened. Was she killed, abducted, has she run away. Where is she, why… This panic state of emotions. You also have the uncovering of absolute betrayal that Hannah is completely blindsided by and the conflicting emotions that come with it.

Hannah and Nicki are bonded by this nightmarish event. They become to rely on each other for strength and support. You feel them changing over time and becoming more than just friend. Leving carefully crafts this relationship and you, as the reader, are absorbed in their slow burn romance.

Where is a$$hat Jordan? That’s where it goes dark and sinister. I’m not going to tell you this part, I will say you wouldn’t wish this on your worst enemy.

I told you it was multifaceted! Leving challenges you with this book. This story is like a pendulum of emotions, so well crafted that you can’t stop even when it gets difficult to read Jordan’s plight. This is a really fantastic book, you haven’t read anything like this one, I promise.

Twisted Whispers Sheri Lewis Wohl

Twisted Whispers by Sheri Lewis Wohl is the second in a series following Lorna Dutton, the reluctant psychic. Reading the first book in the series is definitely not a requirement. Although, it will help you understand some of the character’s background information.

Thea Lynch is looking for her missing twin sister, Alida. Alida went to work one day and vanished. Thea is understandably distraught and turns to the sheriff’s department and her childhood best friend Lorna for help. While Lorna is not a fan of her new ability to see visions, she can’t tell Thea no.

Deputy Sheriff, Katie Carlisle, takes Alida’s disappearance very seriously. She may even be the only one in the sheriff’s department that does. To make a missing person’s case even more difficult, Katie is undeniably attracted to Thea.

While I thought the first book in this series was okay, and I did have higher hopes for the second. I must say I was let down. This story drags like an old mule. The repetitiveness of thoughts and feelings by the main’s got on my nerves. I really struggled to get through it.
