Big Girl Pill by K.D. Williamson

After reading the very first chapter of Big Girl Pill, I knew K.D. Williamson had written a damn good book. Truth be told Williamson always gives you a fantastic story but this one pulled me in early and had me enthralled till the very last page. This is one of the best lesfic books of 2019. Such a fantastic read!

Maya Davis is headed back to her hometown for her best friend’s wedding. She accepted the job as bridesmaid not because she is thrilled for her besties upcoming nuptials but to finish the job of ripping her heart out. She has been in love with the future bride for years. Seeing Nina get married has to finish the job and let her move one. she just has to get through the excruciating experience with as much strength and stoicism as possible.

Nina Sterling is getting married. She likes her future husband is a resound to the safe future he has planned for them. Nina’s unhappy childhood has paved the way for this wedding. Her mother is mean and emotionally abusive. Her constant barrage of insults has left Nina a shell of a person. She looks back on her time in high school and college with fond memories because of the fun she had with Maya. She would do anything to suppress her feeling for her best friend and erase the memory of their drunken night in bed together.

The main characters in this book are masterfully written. The supporting cast adds so much depth to the story. K.D. Williamson just brought the heat when it comes to character development and dialogue. Outstanding! I could go on and on about how good this book is, but the main thing I can say…go read it. Your heart will be so happy you did!

Reinventing Lindsey by Maggie Brown

Slow burn romances are totally my thing. I love how the tension and angst ramps up over time till its practically vibrating off the page. Melt my heart with your loaded glances, please! Maggie Brown’s latest book, Reinventing Lindsey does just that.

Daisy Parker is an anthropologist who has made a very successful career at being a matchmaker. She is amazing at pairing people and has worked her magic in the love department many times over. Just ask all the happy couples she has helped. Until now she has worked with strictly male/female relationships, but the reclusive scientist Lindsey Jamieson-Ford has reached out to her for assistance. This is a big coup to get one of Australia’s leading scientists on her client list. The only problem is Lindsey is going to test her skills and patience many times over.

Lindsey Jamieson-Ford is a recluse who has locked herself away with her groundbreaking work. She may be leading the field in scientific breakthroughs but she has done nothing at all for her personal life. Lindsey has come to admit she is lonely and would like to meet someone for a longterm romance. It is time to put the past aside and begin meeting people again.

Daisy and Lindsey could not be more different. They clash time and time again as Daisy works to get Lindsey ready to meet her perfect match. The reserved scientist fights her matchmaker every step of the way. These two spar time and time again all the while developing fun and delightful back and forth banter. You can definitely see where this one is going long before our two MC’s figure it out. Once they do, the glorious sparks fly.

Overall I thought the premise was fun, I really liked both of the two protagonists. The first half of the book was really rich in detail and took its time building the budding friendship between Daisy and Lindsey. I wish the last portion would have has a little more depth, it felt a bit glossed over once the relationship hit the next level. Overall a really delightful story that was a great escape from the daily grind. Totally recommend checking this one out if you love a slow burn and fun dialogue!

Saving Grace by HP Munro

I love HP Munro’s books. They have interesting characters, well thought out plots, and more than anything else they are just good romances. When I found out she had a new one out, well I hit that buy button and got right to it. With that being said, before you buy this one, you will definitely want to read Grace Falls first. While Saving Grace is a follow-up story with two new protagonists, you will be lost in a sea of details and sub-characters if you don’t.

Erin Hunter is the town veterinarian in Grace Falls. She has lived there all her life, with the exception of the years she was away for college. Erin’s life has been professionally successful while being emotionally stunted. She has never been able to successfully let go of her first love, Charlotte Grace .

Charlotte Grace was born to Grace Falls most prominent family. Her father owned the lumber mill that employed the majority of the town’s population. Charlotte’s mother never let anyone forget that the Grace’s were the royalty of the town. No one was ever good enough and everyone was beneath them. You can imagine mean ol’ mama’s discontent when her daughter befriends the town’s little Dr. DoLittle. Charlotte and Erin have a bond that is undeniable and as the years go on they become young lovers. That is until Charlotte’s mother finds out and ships her daughter to boarding school, breaking both Erin and Charlotte’s hearts.

The story revolves around Erin and Charlotte finding their way back to each other. Throw in a bunch of zany supporting characters and you have some really funny moments. This novel is charming and heartwarming. While I don’t think it had quite the staying power as Grace Falls I did thoroughly enjoy my time with it. HP Munro is definitely on my automatic buy list.
